Chorong Moon and Lu Cheng engage with various materials and methodologies, exploring the relationships that come into play in the occurrence of sensations. They place their works in a dialogue with each other. The objects are quiet and disordered, finding their equilibrium in invisible connections. While Cheng and Moon share common interests in terms of space, movement, and temporality, their works contradict each other in structures and surfaces, interior and exterior, materiality, and narrativity. With the title "∞ +1 =," Cheng and Moon attempt to juxtapose these contradictory phenomena, allowing their works to communicate with each other. Mathematically, the formula "∞ +1 =" has a clear answer. However, the artists aim to focus their collaboration on the question "∞ +1 =," dedicating their attention to what the possibilities of "+1" could be. In this context, "∞" signifies movement, repetition, and change, which are common characteristics of their works. "+1" holds, for the two artists, the ontological idea that could exist as one possibility."
Chorong Moon presents in this exhibition a moment using plaster as a material, where movements are captured. Shapes that have been worked from a flat state are cut, interwoven, bent, torn, pressed, and repeatedly inserted. The results, born from direct manual deformation, float on the ceiling or hang on the wall, giving the impression of floating or falling. The works have been positioned without intending a specific form or situation.
Lu Cheng engages in her artistic work with the growth of biomorphic forms using various materials. The resulting installative and sculptural objects are not direct representations of natural organisms but rather pseudo-natural entities. She is particularly interested in the body as a hybrid, constantly transforming and shaped by its surroundings. Through playful experimentation with materials, various forms emerge, where in the case of sharp spikes and soft organic shapes, the material can appear contradictory. In all her works, the concept of growth, in the sense of "becoming," plays a significant role.
