Just as contraband is hidden in permitted and everyday objects, people can recognize and learn social codes to remain inconspicuous. Smuggled in are needs for safety, belonging, and recognition. But it also enables the breaking and reshaping of the norm at the basic structure. The objects shown thereby represent the aspects of adaptation and imitation, belonging and security, communication and frustration. Jakob Francisco The exhibition "SEPARATE MY FEET FROM THE GROUND" deals with opening a metaphysical space of libidinal failure. An archiving of social delinquency that subordinates itself to a system of desires through cultural coding. In contrast to this, the striving for recognition and belonging - in the sense of an illusory security - forces actors of certain social milieus to appropriate these codes on the one hand, in order to break norms on the other. In the context of the exhibition, this dynamic is reflexively transferred to structural mechanisms of the art world. Jakob Francisco playfully deals with everyday banalities that force an exaggeration of reality through their placeholder function, which as such lead to a conscious misappropriation.
